The following goods may be imported into Afghanistan without incurring customs duty: 
• A reasonable amount of tobacco products and perfume for personal use. Advance permission is required if importing agrochemicals and pesticides, animals and animal products, armored vehicles, endangered species, foodstuffs, fresh fruit and vegetables, military equipment, films and DVDs, ozone depleting substances, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, printed publications, seeds, telecommunications equipment, or veterinary equipment and medicines.

Prohibited Imports

Prohibited imports to Afghanistan include alcoholic drinks, arms and ammunition, chemical fertilizers, cotton seeds, pork and pork products, drugs and plastic bags.

Prohibited Exports

You must seek authorization from the local authorities before exporting antiques. Buying artifacts from the Kabul Museum is illegal.

Albania

Overview

The following items may be imported into Albania without incurring customs duty:
• 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco.
• 1L of spirits with an alcoholic content of 22% or 2L of spirits containing less than 22% alcohol and 2L of wine.
• 250ml of eau de toilette or 50ml of perfume.
• Personal goods, gifts and souvenirs up to a value of Lek30,000 (up to Lek15,000 for children under 15). Tobacco allowances apply to travelers aged 15 or over. Alcohol allowances apply to travelers aged 18 or over.

Prohibited Imports

Prohibited and restricted imports include weapons, radioactive materials, ozone-depleting substances, narcotics, and endangered wild flora and fauna.

Prohibited Exports

You need to obtain a permit to export precious metals, antiques (including coins and maps) and books or works of art which form part of Albania's cultural and historical heritage.

Argentina

Overview

The following goods may be imported into Argentina by travelers over 16 years of age without incurring customs duty: 
• US$300 in personal or new goods if arriving by air, plus an additional US$300 of goods purchased in duty-free shops upon arrival.
• US$150 in personal or new goods if arriving by land or waterway, plus an additional US$150 of goods purchased in duty-free shops upon arrival. Travelers under 16 may import half these amounts. 
You should declare upon arrival items that might not be considered part of normal luggage (such as expensive camera equipment or musical instruments) and show the declaration on departure. A license is required for firearms and ammunition for hunting purposes. You must declare gold.

Prohibited Imports

Firearms (unless under license from the National Arms Registry), explosives, flammables, narcotics, and goods considered a risk to health or safety.

Armenia

Australia

Overview

The following items may be imported into Australia by travellers over 18 years of age without incurring customs duty:
• 50 cigarettes or 50g of tobacco or cigars.
• 2.25L of alcoholic drinks.
• Articles for personal hygiene and clothing, not including perfume or fur apparel.
• Other goods to a value of A$900 (A$450 if under 18).

Prohibited Imports

There are very strict regulations against the import of non-prescribed drugs, weapons, firearms, wildlife, domestic animals and foodstuffs (including meat, poultry and dairy; plants or parts of plants [including fruit, nuts and seeds]; animal products [including wool, skins and eggs] and any equipment used with domestic animals) and other potential sources of disease and pestilence (such as vaccines or viruses). There are severe penalties for drug trafficking.

Prohibited Exports

The export of protected wildlife and associated products is strictly controlled, including the export of coral, turtle shell, snake or reptile skin, orchids, caviar, ivory products, hunting trophies and traditional medicinal products. If you plan to export any heritage-listed goods, including works of art, stamps, coins, archaeological objects, minerals and specimens, you need to apply for a special permit. The export of Australian native animals and plants is either prohibited or restricted. Also prohibited are firearms, pornography and narcotics.

Azerbaijan

Overview

The following goods may be imported into Azerbaijan by persons over 16 years of age without incurring customs duty: 
• 3 cartons of cigarettes.
• 3L of alcohol.
• Goods up to a value of US$1,000 and up to 50kg in weight.
• 125g of caviar.

On entering the country, you must complete a customs declaration form which you must retain until departure. This allows the import of articles intended for personal use, including currency and valuables, which you must register on the form.

Prohibited Imports

Weapons and ammunition, narcotics, and photographs and printed material directed against Azerbaijan.  You may only import religious literature and goods with the permission of the State Commission on Work with Religious Associations. Plants, animals and their products must be accompanied by the appropriate import certificate from the State Sanitary Service or State Veterinary Service.

Prohibited Exports

Weapons and ammunition, cultural artifacts (unless permission has been granted by the Ministry of Culture), zoological collections, wildlife objects, deer and gazelle horns, protected plant and tree species, and documents of state importance.

 
Bahamas

Bahrain

• Gifts up to the value of BHD250 (approximately US$660).

Prohibited Imports

Prohibited imports include narcotics, cultured pearls, advertisements for cigarettes, radio-controlled model aircraft, child's toy guns, goods of Israeli origin, publications that contradict Islamic teachings, asbestos and ivory. Restricted imports requiring authorization include animals, animal products, plants, fruit and vegetables, firearms and ammunition, films and publications, and telecommunications equipment.

Prohibited Exports

Prohibited exports include fuel, flour, red meat and fresh chicken bearing the trademark 'Delmon'. Restricted exports requiring authorization include palm tree seedlings and antiquities.

Bangladesh

Belgium

Overview

Belgium is within the European Union.

If you are traveling from the UK, you are entitled to buy fragrance, skincare, cosmetics, Champagne, wine, selected spirits, fashion accessories, gifts and souvenirs - all at tax-free equivalent prices.

If you are traveling from within the EU, there is no limit on the amount or value of goods you may import, providing your goods are for personal consumption. Goods imported for commercial purposes are subject to duty and the following guideline amounts are in place to determine whether this is the case:
• 800 cigarettes or 400 cigarillos or 200 cigars or 1kg of tobacco.
• 10L of spirits over 22%, 20L of alcoholic beverages less than 22%, 90L of wine (no more than 60L of sparkling wine) and 110L of beer.

If you are arriving from a non-EU country, the following goods may be imported into Belgium by travelers over 17 years of age without incurring customs duty:
• 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco.
• 4L of wine and 16L of beer and 1L of spirits over 22% or 2L of alcoholic beverages less than 22%.
• Other goods up to the value of €430 for air and sea travelers and €300 for other travelers (reduced to €175 for children under 15).

Belize

• Personal effects. The sale of tobacco is banned in Bhutan. Tourists can import 200 cigarettes or three 50g tins of tobacco for personal consumption, but these are subject to 100% tax. 
The following goods may be imported by Bhutanese residents without incurring duty: 
• 2 bottles of alcoholic beverages of up to 2L each.
• 50g of gold.
• 1kg of silver.

• 10 items of each type of clothing. The total value of the above items must not exceed US$1,000.

The following goods may be imported into Botswana without incurring customs duty:

• Goods up to the value of R500 (South African Rand) from within the SACU zone (Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland) and to the value of R3,000 from outside the zone.

Prohibited Imports

Prohibited imports include firearms and ammunition, narcotics and pornography. You may bring in small amounts of fresh food, but you require an import license for larger amounts. Note that the import regulations on importing meat change regularly according to disease outbreaks in different countries.

Brazil

Overview

The following goods may be imported into Brazil by travelers over 18 years of age without incurring customs duty: 
• 12L of alcohol.
• 200 cigarettes and 25 cigars and 250g of tobacco.
• 20 items (such as small gifts) worth up to US$10 each (or US$5 if arriving via land). 
The total value of the above items should not exceed US$500 if arriving via air or sea or US$300 if arriving via land, river or lake. In addition to the US$500 limit, travelers can buy goods up to US$500 in value at the duty-free shop on arrival in Brazil. The following limits apply: 
• 24 units of alcohol.
• 200 cigarettes and 25 cigars and 250g of tobacco.
• 10 toiletry items including cosmetics.
• 3 of the following: watches, toys, games or electronic items.

Prohibited Imports

Prohibited imports include toy, replica and imitation firearms, illegal drugs, cigarettes and drinks manufactured in Brazil intended for sale abroad, unlicensed wildlife species, and counterfeit and pirated goods. British Virgin Islands

The following goods may be imported into Brunei by travelers aged over 17 years without incurring customs duty: 
• 2 x 1L bottles of alcohol and 12 cans of beer (by non-Muslims for personal consumption only, provided declared at customs upon arrival).
• 60ml of perfume and 250ml of eau de toilette. Duty is charged on all cigarettes and tobacco products.

Prohibited Imports

Drugs (death penalty may apply), guns, ammunition, fire crackers, certain vaccines, and cigarettes without a health warning printed on the packet. The import of live plants requires authorization in advance.

You cannot export petrol, diesel, cigarettes or antiques unless you receive authorization from customs control.

Bulgaria

Overview

The following goods may be imported into Canada without incurring customs duty: 
• 200 cigarettes and 50 cigars and 200g of loose tobacco and 200 tobacco sticks per person over 18 years of age.
• 1.5L of wine or 1.14L of spirits or 8.5L of beer or ale per person over 18 years of age if entering Alberta, Manitoba and Québec, and over 19 years if entering British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan and Yukon.
• Non-residents can bring gifts to the value of C$60 per gift (excluding advertising matter, business-related materials, tobacco or alcoholic beverages).

Customs officials may seize audio and videotapes, books, records and CDs to check for pornographic, political or religious material. You must complete baggage declaration forms upon arrival noting all valuables (such as cameras, watches and jewellery); this may be checked on departure. You should keep receipts for items such as jewellery, jade, handicrafts, paintings, calligraphy or other similar items in order to obtain an export certificate from the authorities on leaving. Without this documentation, you cannot take such items out of the country.

Removing animals, dead or alive, is also forbidden, and be very careful when buying carvings or antiques in Costa Rica. Most probably you’ll get freshly handcrafted art, but removing Aztec, Incan or Mayan cultural artefacts from the country is thoroughly illegal, and happens far too often.

Mozambique

The following goods may be imported into Mozambique without incurring customs duty:

Myanmar

Myanmar Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following goods may be taken into Myanmar without incurring customs duty: 
• 400 cigarettes, 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco.
• 2L of alcohol.
• 150ml of perfume.
• Other goods to the value of US$500. Officially, you must declare valuable jewellery; failure to do so may result in you being refused permission to export it on departure. 

Prohibited Imports

Counterfeit currencies and goods, pornography, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, playing cards, and goods bearing the image of the national flag, the emblem of Buddha or the pagodas of Myanmar.

Prohibited Exports

Arms and ammunitions, pornography, antiques, endangered species, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. You can export gems, jewellery and silverware purchased from authorised shops, but you should obtain paperwork for anything of significant age or value.

 
Namibia

Namibia Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following may be imported into Namibia by persons over 18 years of age without incurring customs duty: 
• 200 cigarettes and 20 cigars and 250g of tobacco.
• 2L of wine and 1L of spirits.
• 50ml of perfume and 250ml of eau de toilette.
• Gifts to the value of N$3,000.

Prohibited Imports

Prohibited imports include narcotics, automatic weapons, military weapons, unnumbered weapons, toxic and poisonous substances. Hunting rifles need a permit issued by customs when entering the country. Special authorisation is required for the import of endangered species. Plants or plant materials require a permit obtained in advance.

Prohibited Exports

Prohibited exports include endangered species, narcotics, stolen property, ivory, rhino horn, and protected cultural artefacts. You must obtain permits in order to export the following: military weapons, ammunition, explosives, firearms, conflict diamonds and minerals, pornography, and products which violate national intellectual property protection law (eg counterfeit goods).

Nauru

Nauru Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following goods may be imported into Nauru without incurring customs duty:
• 200 cigarettes or 500g of tobacco (travellers over 16 years of age).
• 2L of spirits or wine (travellers over 21 years of age).

You must obtain a licence to export Nauruan artefacts.

Nepal

Nepal Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following goods may be imported into Nepal by foreign visitors without incurring customs duty: 
• 200 cigarettes and 50 cigars and 50g of tobacco.
• 1.15L of spirits or wine and 12 cans of beer.
• Medicine not exceeding Rs1,000.
• Fruits or canned food not exceeding Rs1,000 each. All baggage must be declared on arrival and departure. Certain goods including cameras, videos and electronic goods may only be imported duty-free if they are exported on departure. They may not be left in Nepal.

Prohibited Imports

Prohibited items include narcotics, beef and plastic bags less than 20 microns thick. Restricted items include firearms and ammunition, radio equipment and poppy seeds.

Prohibited Exports

Goods of historical, archaeological or religious importance, wild fauna, narcotics, firearms and ammunition, and certain herbs and woods.

Netherlands

Netherlands Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The Netherlands is within the European Union.

If you are travelling from the UK, you are entitled to buy fragance, skincare, cosmetics, Champagne, wine, selected spirits, fashion accessories, gifts and souvenirs - all at tax-free equivalent prices.

If you are travelling from within the EU, there is no limit on the amount or value of goods you may import, providing your goods are for personal consumption. Goods imported for commercial purposes are subject to duty and the following guideline amounts are in place to determine whether this is the case:
• 800 cigarettes or 400 cigarillos or 200 cigars or 1kg of tobacco.
• 10L of spirits over 22% volume, 20L of alcoholic beverages less than 22% volume, 90L of wine (no more than 60L of sparkling wine) and 110L of beer.

If you are arriving from a non-EU country, the following goods may be imported into the Netherlands by persons over 17 years of age without incurring customs duty:
• 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco.
• 4L of wine and 16L of beer and 1L of spirits over 22% volume or 2L of alcoholic beverages less than 22% volume.
• Other goods up to the value of €430 or €300 if arriving by private aircraft or yacht.

Prohibited Imports

Counterfeit goods, endangered plant and animal species, arms and ammunition, narcotics, antiques without an export permit from the country of origin, and uncertified plants, meat and dairy products from outside the EU.

New Caledonia

Overview

The following goods may be imported into New Caledonia by travellers aged 17 or over without incurring customs duty:
• 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco.
• 2L of table wine and 1L of spirits over 22% volume, or 2L of fortified wine less than 22% volume.
• 50ml of perfume and 250ml of eau de toilette.
• 500g of coffee and 100g of tea.
• Other goods to the value of XPF30,000 (reduced to XPF15,000 for children under 15).

Prohibited items include narcotics and counterfeit goods. Restricted items include plants, animals and their products, endangered species, arms and ammunition, and medicines.

New Zealand

New Zealand Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following items may be imported into New Zealand by persons of 17 years of age and over without incurring customs duty:
• 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g tobacco or a mixture of all three weighing no more than 250g.
• 4.5L of wine or beer.
• 3 bottles of 1.125L of spirits or liqueurs.
• Other goods to the value of NZ$700.

Prohibited Imports

Because of the importance of agriculture and horticulture to the New Zealand economy, it is illegal to import most foodstuffs (meat, meat products, honey, fruit and dairy). Customs and agricultural officers view any breach of the laws extremely seriously and travellers are fined on the spot. Take care when importing wood products, such as golf clubs, shoes and items made from animal skin and feathers. For further information, contact the nearest embassy, high commission or consulate.  The import of the following items is also prohibited: drugs, counterfeit goods, firearms and weapons (unless a special permit is obtained from the New Zealand police), ivory in any form, tortoise or turtle shell jewellery and ornaments, medicines using musk, rhinoceros or tiger derivatives, carvings or anything made from whalebone or bone from any other marine animals, cat skins or coats, and certain drugs (eg diuretics, depressants, stimulants, heart drugs, tranquillisers, sleeping pills) unless covered by a doctor's prescription. The New Zealand Customs Service website (www.customs.govt.nz) contains comprehensive advice for travellers and details all restricted items. There are heavy fines in place for those caught breaking these rules.

Nicaragua

Nicaragua Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following items can be imported into Nicaragua by travellers aged 21 and over without incurring customs duty: 
• 400 cigarettes or 25 cigars or 500g of tobacco.
• 5L of alcoholic drinks.
• 2kg of confectionery.
• Other goods to the value of US$500 (provided you've been out of the country for at least 72 hours).

Prohibited Imports

Restricted items include fresh food, live animals and plants and their products. A special permit is required for firearms.

Archaeological items, artefacts of historical or monetary value, and gold.

Niger

Pornography is prohibited. You must obtain a licence to import sporting guns.

Digging up or attempting to export ancient artefacts is prohibited.

Nigeria

Nigeria Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following goods may be imported into Nigeria by travellers over 18 years of age without incurring customs duty: 
• 200g of tobacco products.
• 1L of spirits and 1L of wine.
• 284ml of perfume.
• Gifts to the value of 50,000 (excluding jewellery, photographic equipment, electronics and luxury goods).

Prohibited Imports

Prohibited imports include birds and birds' eggs, pork, beef, water containing added sugar or sweeteners, certain medicines and mosquito repellent coils. For a full list see www.customs.gov.ng. 

Prohibited Exports

All banned imports as well as maize, timber, raw hides or skin, endangered species, and artefacts and antitquities.

Niue

Niue Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following items can be imported into Niue by persons of 18 years of age or older without incurring customs duty:
• 200 cigarettes or 250g of tobacco.
• 3.5L of spirits, liqueur or wine (in three bottles), or 8L of beer.

Prohibited Imports

Firearms and ammunition, and glass beer bottles (only cans are permitted).

North Korea

North Korea Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free


Overview

Information on quantities of cigarettes, alcohol etc is unavailable at the time of writing. You must declare items such as cameras and MP3 players at the border. Mobile phones and video recorders are usually confiscated upon entry and returned when you leave.

Prohibited Imports

Arms, drugs and pornography. It is inadvisable to bring books about North Korea printed in the West or South Korea.

Norway

Norway Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following items can be imported into Norway without incurring customs duty:
• 200 cigarettes or 250g of tobacco products and 200 leaves of cigarette paper.
• Either 1L of spirits over 22% volume and 1.5L of alcoholic drinks over 4.7% volume but less than 22% volume, or 3L of alcoholic drinks less than 22% volume; and 2L of beer up to 4.7% volume.
• Other goods to the value of Kr6,000 (if out of Norway for more than 24 hours) or Kr3,000 (if out of Norway for less than 24 hours).
• 10kg of meat and meat products, cheese and foodstuffs (except dog and cat food). You must be over 18 years old to import tobacco and alcohol. You must be over 20 years old to import spirits over 22% volume.

Prohibited Imports

The following items are prohibited without special permission: drugs and medicines (other than prescription medication), spirits over 60% volume, weapons and ammunition, fireworks, potatoes, meat and dairy products from outside the EEA, mammals, birds and exotic animals, and plants and their parts.

Endangered species or eggs of endangered species, antiques (except with a permit), or more than 15kg of fish.

 
Oman

Oman Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following items may be imported into Oman without incurring customs duty: 
• Up to 2L or 24 cans of alcoholic beverages (non-Muslims over the age of 21 only).
• 400 cigarettes.
• 100ml of perfume.
• 10 DVDs. Meat products officially require an Islamic slaughter certificate and import licence. Medicines in their original packaging and with the original label should be accompanied by a prescription or medical certificate. Certain medicines may be illegal in Oman and may be treated as narcotics, so you should check with your nearest embassy before you go.

Prohibited Imports

The import and use of narcotics and obscene material are forbidden and can lead to imprisonment. There are severe penalties for drug offences including, in some cases, the death penalty. 'Soft' drugs are treated as seriously as 'hard' drugs. The possession of small quantities of cannabis can lead to a 12-month prison sentence and deportation. The list of banned imports also includes leaves, flowers, seeds and stems of cannabis, raw or prepared opium, weapons, firearms and ammunition, fireworks, and alcoholic drinks (unless you are a non-Muslim).

All the materials mentioned above are banned for export unless authorised by the General Inspector of Police and Customs.

 
Pakistan

• Gifts up to a value of Rs2,000.
• 250ml of eau de toilette or perfume. For residents of Pakistan, the gift allowance is reduced to Rs1,000 for a second trip within a calendar year.

Palestine

Palestinian National Authority Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following goods may be imported into Israel and the Palestinian National Authority without incurring customs duty (alcohol and tobacco can only be imported by persons aged 17 years and over): 
• 250g of tobacco products.
• 1L of spirits and 2L of wine.
• 3kg of food (each item may not weigh more than 1kg).
• Gifts and other goods to the value of US$200.

Prohibited Imports

Prohibited and restricted items include firearms, plants, raw meat, raw material, counterfeit currency or documents, and knives not intended for professional use.

Panama

The following items may be imported into Panama without incurring customs duty: 
• 10 packs of cigarettes or 2 packets of tobacco.
• 5 bottles or 3.8L of alcohol.
• Goods up to the value of B/.2,000. You may bring in gifts, as long as you do not have more than six of each item.

Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following may be imported into Papua New Guinea by travellers over 18 years of age without incurring customs duty:
• 250 cigarettes or 250g of tobacco.
• 2L of alcoholic beverages.
• 1L of perfume.
• New goods up to a value of K1,000 (K500 for children under 18).

Prohibited Imports

Prohibited items include counterfeit bank notes and coins, goods manufactured using prison labour, flick knives, matches containing white or yellow phosphorus, parrots, parakeets and related birds, plastic shopping bags, gaming machines, and firearm silencers. Restricted items requiring special permission or certification include animals, narcotics, fireworks, fish, food, goods considered a danger to the community, pornographic and violent publications and films, goods that infringe intellectual property rights, literature advocating the overthrow by force of any country, literature inciting hostility against the Papua New Guinea government, pesticides, plumage and skins of birds of paradise and crown pigeons, rice, radioactive substances, tear gas, and vaccines.

Dangerous drugs are completely prohibited. Restricted exports requiring special permission include crocodiles and their parts, flora and fauna, timber, geological and fossil materials, alluvial gold, pearl-shell oysters, natural cultural property, and goods acquired illegaly.

Paraguay

Peru

Unlicensed firearms and narcotics. You must carry the appropriate certificates if importing plants or animals and their products.

Prohibited Exports

The export of artistic or cultural articles is prohibited. Taking protected plant and animal species out of Peru is also prohibited – this can include products containing seeds and feathers.

Philippines

Philippines Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following items may be imported into the Philippines by travellers aged 18 and over without incurring customs duty: 
• 2 cartons of cigarettes or 2 tins of tobacco.
• 2 bottles of alcohol.
• Goods to the total value of US$1,000 (US$2,000 for overseas-based Filipinos and US$250 for children under 18). You may only import one of each type of non-consumable item worth over US$200. The total purchase for any calendar year may not exceed US$10,000.

Firearms and ammunition, explosives, publications inciting treason or rebellion against the government, obscene or immoral materials, and anything related to carrying out or advertising abortions (which are illegal in the Philippines).

Poland

Poland Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

If you are arriving from a non-EU country, the following goods may be imported into Poland by persons over 17 years of age without incurring customs duty:
• 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco (if arriving by air or sea).
• 40 cigarettes or 20 cigarillos or 10 cigars or 50g of tobacco (if arriving by land or rail).
• 4L of wine and 16L of beer and 1L of spirits over 22% or 2L of alcoholic beverages less than 22%.
• Other goods up to the value of €430 for air and sea travellers and €300 for other travellers.

Prohibited Imports

Unlicensed firearms and ammunition, narcotics, meat and dairy products from outside the EU. Endangered species require a permit. You may only import small quantities of plants, fruit and vegetables for personal use, otherwise they require a phytosanitary certificate.

Prohibited Exports

Certain arts and antiquities require an export licence, eg archaeological artefacts more than 100 years old or paintings more than 50 years old. Endangered species also require a permit.

Portugal

Overview

If you are travelling from within the EU, there is no limit on the amount or value of goods you may import, providing your goods are for personal consumption. Goods imported for commercial purposes are subject to duty and the following guideline amounts are in place to determine whether this is the case:

Prohibited Imports

The import of meat and dairy products from non-EU countries is prohibited with the exception of limited amounts from Andorra, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and small amounts of specific products from other countries. Also banned are protected species and their products as listed by the CITES (Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species), for example ivory, tortoise shell, coral, reptile skin and wood from Amazonian forests. You can only import firearms under licence.

Puerto Rico

Overview

In general duty-free regulations are the same for Puerto Rico as for the USA. The following goods may be imported by visitors over 21 years of age into Puerto Rico without incurring customs duty: 
• 200 cigarettes or 100 cigars.
• 1L of alcoholic beverages. Further information on US customs regulations is available online (www.cbp.gov).

Prohibited Imports

Narcotics and dangerous drugs (unless for medical purposes), absinthe, biological materials, some seeds, fruits and plants (including endangered species of plants and vegetables and their products), unlicensed firearms and ammunition, meat and poultry products (fresh, dried or canned), any fish or their eggs (unless certified as disease free and canned, pickled or smoked), dairy products and eggs, Cuban cigars, wildlife and endangered species, dog and cat fur, some art and artefacts, imports from Iran and leather souvenirs from Haiti (eg drums), some automobiles, counterfeit goods, merchandise from embargoed countries (Cuba, Iran, Myanmar, and most of Sudan), and unauthorised cultural artefacts.

Prohibited Exports

All visitors leaving Puerto Rico are required to send their checked luggage through US Food and Drug Administration screening, which scans for animals, fruits, vegetables, and current prohibited items by X-ray.

 
Qatar

Overview

The following goods may be imported into Qatar without incurring customs duty: 
• 400 cigarettes.
• Personal items and gifts up to a value of QR3,000.

Alcohol, narcotics, pork-related products or pornography. Goods conspicuously originating from Israel may pose problems if you're stopped by customs. You cannot bring Israeli currency in or out of the country. You can only import firearms with a licence obtained in advance from the Ministry of Defence.

Rwanda

Rwanda Travel Guide - Lotte Duty Free

Overview

The following items may be imported into Rwanda by persons over 18 years of age without incurring customs duty: 
• 250g of tobacco products.
• 1L or spirits or 2L of wine.
• 500ml of perfume and eau de toilette, of which up to a quarter may be perfume.
• Goods up to US$500 in value.

Prohibited Imports

Prohibited goods include counterfeit coins and notes, pornography, matches made with white phosphorus, distilled beverages such as absinthe, soaps and cosmetics containing mercury, used tyres, counterfeit goods, and goods destructive to the environment including plastic bags. Restricted goods include animal traps, unwrought precious metals and stones, arms and ammunition, historical artefacts, ivory, rhino horn, tortoise shell, coral, and non-indigenous species of fish.

The following goods may be imported into Singapore by travellers aged 18 years and older without incurring customs duty: 
• 1L of spirits.
• 1L of wine.
• 1L of beer.
• Goods to the value of S$600 (if out of the country for more than 48 hours) or S$150 (if out of the country for less than 48 hours). There is no duty-free allowance for cigarettes and tobacco products. These allowances do not apply if arriving from Malaysia or if you've spent less than 48 hours out of Singapore. If you don't use your allowance of spirits, then you may import an additional 1L of either wine or beer without incurring customs duty. Alcohol is expensive in Singapore, so bringing in duty-free drinks within these limits is a popular way to save a little money. Chewing gum, chewing tobacco, electronic cigarettes and other ‘imitation tobacco products’, cigarette lighters of revolver or pistol shape, controlled drugs or psychotrophic substances, firecrackers, endangered species of wildlife and their byproducts, all pornographic films and literature, reproduction of copyright material, and seditious or treasonous material. The penalties for possession of narcotics are severe and visitors not complying with drug regulations do so at the risk of death. A permit is required in order to import various restricted items. These include animals and their byproducts, meat, fruit, vegetables, fish, arms, explosives, bullet-proof clothing, toy guns, weapons, films, videos, video games, publications, audio records, pharmaceuticals, poisons, telecommunication and radio communication equipment and radioactive materials.

Turkmenistan

It is a criminal offence to take shells or coral from any national park, which includes much of the coastline. It is illegal to take any coral out of the country. Until November 2013, visitors had to obtain a permit from the Department of Environmental and Maritime Affairs to export conch shells. However, in conch season (mid-October to mid-July), tourists can now export up to three queen conch shells without a permit. If you wish to export more than three shells, you need to obtain a CITES permit. During closed season (mid-July to mid-October), exporting conch shells is prohibited, but the legislation is currently being revised meaning visitors will soon be able to export conch shells year-round.

Narcotics, pornography, counterfeit items, cultural artefacts and objects of cultural importance, henna, palm tree products and explosive material are not permitted. Some medication may also be restricted; check before you travel. Meat and meat products, along with domestic and wild birds and their products from countries affected by bird flu, are also prohibited.

Live animals require a health certificate showing proof of necessary inoculations, and endangered species and products may only be brought into Uganda with permission of CITES. Hunting weapons are only admitted with authorisation from the Ministry of Interior.

Narcotics, goods from boycotted countries (eg Israel), ivory, rhino horn, gambling devices, original engravings, prints or sculptures, any immoral publications or media contradicting Islamic teachings, counterfeit currency, and cooked or homemade food. If you are planning to carry medication into the country, check with your embassy in advance, as some common, over-the-counter medicines that are freely available elsewhere in the world are prohibited in the UAE. Penalties are severe - you could go to prison if you’re caught.

United Kingdom

Overview

Goods obtained duty and tax paid in the EU are unlimited, as long as tax was paid in the country and they are for your own use.

If you bring in more than the following, customs officials are more likely to ask the reason for holding the goods:

• 90L of still wine.
• 110L of beer.
• 10L of alcoholic beverages stronger than 22% or 20L of fortified or sparkling wine or other liqueurs.

If you are arriving from a non-EU country, the following goods may be imported into the UK by persons over 17 years of age without incurring customs duty:
• 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco. These can be combined provided travellers do not exceed their total tobacco allowance.

• Goods up to a value of US$800 (returning residents who have been out of the country for at least 48 hours; this limit is applicable once every 30 days and is reduced to US$200 for travellers who have already used the allowance or have been out of the USA for less than 48 hours).

Travellers arriving from certain Caribbean and Latin American countries may import up to 2L of alcoholic beverages, as long as at least 1L was produced in one of the applicable countries.
